Re: traction

According to the Photo guide of Nursing Skills

Traction is defined as the application of a pulling force to an extremity or another part of the body while countertraction pulls in the opposite direction.

Ensure pt. is positioned in the center of the bed with the affected leg aligned with the trunk of the body. Misalignment is the leading cause of complications for patients in traction.
Examine the weights and pulley system. Ensure that pull goes directly through the long axis of the fractured bone.
